Sweet Treats

So today I had a little time on my hands and this is what I got up to.  I am intending to give them to some friends for little Christmas presents, if we don't end up eating them all first!  My photographer husband took the photos, pretty cute huh?

My Top 5 Albums 2010

This is a bit different to the stuff I usually post but so what?  Music is such a big part of my life, like a timeline of a time and place.   I love working with great music in the background.

1.  Record Collection by Mark Ronson
2.  The Family Jewels by Marina and the Diamonds
3.  So Frenchy So Chic 2010
4.  We Are Born by Sia
5.  I Believe You Liar by Washington

Gina Haywood

Can you believe these images are charcoal on paper?  They are simply stunning.  Gina Haywood is represented by Iain Dawson Gallery, Sydney

The sublime charcoal on paper works of master draughtsman Gina Haywood are presented for the first time this November. Haywood manipulates digital images, solarising, increasing contrast and manipulating poses, then, using charcoal and the ever present q-tip, transforms these original photgraphs into works that sit beyond both photography and drawing, a curious hybrid, and evolution in looking.

Wine Time!

I have never seen a wine store quite like this before, what an interesting way to display the wine on the stacked winecases themselves!  The stacking of the winecases gives the space a cave like quality and still allows the wine to be the focus.  This is continued throughout the space through to the tasting table which is used for seminars, where can I sign up?

The interior is by OOS based in Zurich.  From OOS:
Always considered to be an insider’s secret among wine lovers in the past, the Albert Reichmuth wine store is now opening its first showroom accessible to the public at Feldstrasse 62 in Zurich. “LA GALERIE DU VIN” is both a sales as well as a wine tasting and seminar venue and aims to appeal to regular customers and passers-by alike. The spatial layout and staging by OOS reflect the store’s values and traditions and let the wine bottles speak for themselves.

V2K Design

I have to admit that I had never thought of Istanbul as a city known for design, that was however before I discovered Autoban at 100% Design London and they were far away the stand out exhibit.  I absolutely adore their furniture pieces and lighting for De La Espada they are contemporary and modern with a twist.  And their interiors are just as stunning.  This store is V2K in Istanbul which sells high-end designer labels.  The catwalk mannequin display is sharp and the white palette is a clean backdrop for the product and black and white images.  The concealed lighting and spotted lights are really effective.  Mmmm, do I need to add Istanbul on the (very long) list?

Cedric Rivrain - Illustrator Extrodanaire

Some people are ridiculous.  Ridiculously talented that is.  Cedric Rivrain is a Paris based artist who has developed a cult status for his illustrations of fashion models.  I love the way that the faces are so realistic and fade back into the grain of the paper, simply stunning.

Lightbulb Moment

You know what?  I hate to admit it but I'm getting rather tired of exposed light bulbs in every cafe in Melbourne.  Have a look and it's true - EVERY SINGLE CAFE!
These Diamond Lights are exceptional!  They are by Swedish product designer Eric Therner and I believe he ships worldwide.

I just discovered these stunning photos which are just a tiny snapshot from the brilliant work of Berlin based photographer Ragner Schmuck.  How stunning are they!  I especially love his still life collection, they have a richness and depth of colour accentuated by light and shadow.

Art Glass

Extreme love for these stunning pieces.  Jean Michel Othoniel is a Paris based artist that I discovered via twitter from Jacky Winter and it was love at first sight!  Glass is such a beautiful medium however if you think about it it is not often used for large scale installations such as these. The colours are just beautiful and the reflections and transparency give a delicate quality.  Stunning.
“What is glass? It is a transparency draped in reflections and stitched with metal, which the French artist Jean-Michel Othoniel, born in Saint-√Čtienne in 1964, has adopted as the leitmotif for his work since 1993. It’s a hard, breakable material, or, to use a more scientific language, an amorphous, non-crystalline solid, which achieves a vitreous transformation, formed of silica and a flux, and discovered at the dawn of human history in the sands of the Middle East. For the artist, it is both a signature and a territory: the secret garden of his fantasies, a wonderland through the looking glass.”

My Dream Home Studio

Oh my gosh, how ridiculously chic is this home studio?  So glamorous!  This is the studio of Kate Hume, an interior designer based in Amsterdam who also collaborates in a furniture and hand-blown glass range.  I am a fan of her eclectic style to combine unique pieces of furniture with artwork and antiques to create something a little unexpected.  I was fortunate to work with Kate briefly in London where I first became aware of her design practice and have been a fan since!

Aren't these pieces special?  Elestial is a Melbourne based jewelery range by Kerstin Schulenburg and predominately uses crystals for their special healing qualities, but I just think they are quite beautiful!  Each piece is unique and custom made.  Visit the website to read more....
